Painting looks hopelessly passive compared to sound, video or interactive installation. I do not know what is painting good for. In course of years I do not know it with growing intensity. I had experienced endless moments of absolute boredom in front of beautiful pictures, both as their viewer and their maker. This proved, however, to be the best evidence of their presence. It can well be solely my private obsession; yet I tend to believe that gazing at painting is the religion of the next millennium.
